I used to see this short and sweet chapter as a curse against women, but now I see it as a well-deserved maternity leave and break! Perhaps it is the wording, which sounds like God is shunning a woman and cutting her off from society, but think about what it really means: this woman gets a break from trekking to the Tabernacle, making any holy preparations (which was work) and, ahem, sex with her husband. Ladies with kids, we all know what those first few weeks are like, right? God says, have some time to yourself and get to know your newborn for the next few weeks. Now, I don’t know why he allots more time for girls than boys, but again, let’s reverse what looks like a curse and rejoice about it: baby girls got more alone time with their mamas than baby boys. Nanny-nanny-boo-boo, boys!
