Bible studies for writers | 2 Kings 7

Sometimes the Lord gives us the things we want in the craziest ways. The king’s officer can attest to that! Elisha prophesied to him exactly what would happen, but like me, the king’s officer never expected HOW those things would take place. This chapter could stand alone really, if it had to. We get a little story about the king’s messenger at the beginning of the story, and at the end, we see it come to fruition! Sounds like Black Friday at Walmart! The messenger’s demise is a travesty and an unfortunate accident (or murder???) that occurred because of Israel’s desperation for food and normalcy, but also because of his lack of faith. I wonder what would have happened to him if he’d been like, “No kidding, Elisha! That’s an incredible prophecy! I can’t wait to see the Lord work these miracles.” Instead, he replied with doubt and a direct slam to God: “that couldn’t happen even if the Lord opened the windows of heaven!”

Writing prompt: believe

Have you ever had a prayer answered in a really weird way? Write about your experience, or elaborate on this one by writing about what it means for the Israelites now that the Arameans have left their post.
