Bible studies for writers | 2 Chronicles 16

What happened to King Asa? He seems to have lost all sight of what was right in his latter years. What makes people slide down that slippery slope? I think we’ve all experienced distance from God at times in our lives, but what makes people stay there? Lots of stuff. For King Asa, it seems he liked his wealth and riches good enough that he just said to heck with God. He was so wrapped up in his own world that he didn’t even ask God to heal his creepy foot disease.

One of the verses I honed in on today was verse 9. It kind of sums up … well, a LOT. “The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” Wowzers, Nelly. Read it again. Now, the question I’m asking myself is why does the Lord need to search the WHOLE EARTH? My earthly answer is because there aren’t a whole lot of hearts fully committed to Him to find. If God himself has to flipping SEARCH for something, then it’s pretty darn hard to find, amiright? And I’m imagining, even after all this and after what is to come and even after Jesus, God still has to search the whole earth to find hearts that are fully committed to Him. If you are one of those people, please receive and feel your uniqueness today. We thank you for your devotion, for being our intercessor, for keeping your eyes on the One True God when the rest of us fail.

Writing prompt: fully devoted

Do you know someone whose heart is fully devoted to God? I feel like my grandma was one of these special people. She was the most humble and patient soul on earth. One of my most vivid memories of her is sitting in her rocking chair (underneath the green rotary wall phone with the mile-long curly cord) reading her Bible, often smiling, as if grandkids and family members weren’t chattering and carrying on all around her. She just oozed of the Holy Spirit. That’s what I see when I think of her. Write about someone you know who oozes the Holy Spirit. If you don’t know anyone personally, write about someone who has made an impact on the world in Jesus’ name.
