Bible studies for writers | Psalm 28

Do you ever wonder if people are evil but no one knows it? When I picture “evil” people, they are normally openly evil, like a villain in a movie. But evil lurks everywhere, doesn’t it? It even lurks in us. And what King David saw as evil around him, others may have seen another picture. King David’s prayer, however, shows us a way we can separate ourselves from true evil: just ask. Verse 3 of today’s reading sparked that note with me, anyway.

“Do not drag me away with the wicked –
With those who do evil –
Those who speak friendly words to their neighbors
While planning evil in their hearts.”

I’m just going to leave that right there and let it resonate for a while.

Sum it up:

I pray, Lord,
That you alert us to evils,
Highlight trouble when it’s lurking,
And snatch us away from its grip.

Praise, You, God!
For the safety You have
Provided me.

Writing prompt: just ask

Ask God to protect you and separate you from evil today.
