Have you ever played hide and seek with the Lord? It’s a different game than when you’re playing with friends as a kid because you can’t hide from God. It’s silly to even try. And there is so much relief in just letting Him find you that it’s not even a fun game to play with God anyway. I guess that’s why the words in the song “Amazing Grace” resonate with so many people: “I once was lost, but now I’m found.” That’s what David is praising today. He knows he was found by God. And if anyone knows that it’s young shepherd boy David. It’s harp-playing, dagger-dodging David. It’s spying-on-naked-Bathsheba-and-having-her-husband-killed David. See what I’m saying? Ain’t nobody got nothin’ on King David. Not you, not me. Nobody. And God LOVED King David – not necessarily because He just took a liking to him, but because King David loved God right back. He LOVED Him. He woke up and said hello to God. He went to sleep and said goodnight to God. And in between sunrises and sunsets, he wrote these psalms for and about God so that others might get to love Him, too. And I say “get to love Him” on purpose because it is an honor to be under the wing of the God who searches for and finds me no matter how hard I try to hide.
Sum it up:
Oh, I am joyful because I am forgiven!
I have nothing to hide, for I am fully found.
God knows my whole heart
And everything in it.
And that’s all that matters.
Praise the God who knows me, searches for me
And finds me when I’m hiding!
