Guess what. We’re almost 1/3 of the way through the Book of Psalms! And today marks the beginning of what is subtitled “Book Two.” Many of these opening psalms, like today’s reading, are attributed to the Sons of Korah, not the Australian band, but rather the ancestors of the guy who got swallowed up way back when for challenging Moses. You can read more about Korah himself in Numbers, or you can Google him, or you can do both because his history and lineage are fascinating. He is labeled as a rebel, but because he was a Levite – and a person who truly loved God but had some questions – his family was able to not only stay in the family of God, but they contributed to how we experience the Bible today. Beautiful, just like this psalm, which reminded me a little of current times. Whoever wrote this psalm wrote it out of loneliness, and I think we all can relate to that these days. It’s hard to be isolated, for whatever reason, from loved ones. But as this psalm says in many words: we are never alone. Never. No matter where we are or what we are doing, we are never alone.
Sum it up:
I am so alone, Lord,
Yet I know you can fill the void.
You will give me strength … somehow
And shower your comfort upon me
In so many ways.
Open my eyes to see them.
Open my heart to receive them.
Open my mouth to share them.
Writing prompt: never alone
Write about a time you were so lonely.
