Bible studies for writers | Psalm 59

Ever get the feeling that worship time was a whole lot different in King David’s time than it is today? If you don’t, maybe this psalm will help. Can you imagine if we sang like this in today’s church. Where’s my emoji??? I’m chuckling, but I’m not sure it’s funny.

Sum it up:

Protect me from all these murderers
And criminals
And liars and thieves, Lord!

Torture them all!
Then wipe them off the face of the Earth!

And I’ll just keep singing.

Writing prompt: gory psalm

Some songs are sad, but I can’t really think of any songs that reflect some of King David’s emotions, and I’m not sure I could write a song like this, so I thought it would be “fun(?)” to try. If you’re up for it, write a gory psalm or poem or short story. If you’re not, just write from your heart today because that’s always a good place to grab some inspiration.
