Bible studies for writers | Psalm 139

This psalm contains so many familiar phrases and encouraging scriptures. However, I was particularly drawn to the not-so-famous verse 3 – “You see me when I travel and when I rest at home” – because we just returned form a weeklong trip, and I was just thanking God for delivering us home safely. I prayed for God to “wrap us in His bubble of protection and take us home safely” more than a few times during our holiday. There were many steps of the journey that could have gone wrong a lot of different ways. But they didn’t. Everything went just fine. And now, I’m going to enjoy that day of rest at home.

Sum it up:

Lord, you know absolutely everything about me.
You go with me when I travel
And meet me when I arrive home.
You guide my journeys
And turn misgivings into blessings.

It’s crazy to think about how I was made,
How You created us,
So same-same, but different.

And how you love us and think of us
And know us so intimately,
And how you allow us the same
In bits and pieces.

Stay with me, God,
Even when I am a disappointment,
And teach me how to return Your love.
