for small business owners on a budget (and the MacGyver in you)
Look, I know, as a freelance content consultant on a tiny budget, I sometimes have to be the CEO and the CFC (chief toilet cleaner) at my place of business. And you better believe that when I can afford to pawn off any dirty work, I do. But sometimes, I just have to clean my own toilets, you know? Just like sometimes you have to create your own content. That’s life. But also in life, we get by with a little help from our friends. *Here’s where I might be able to ease the pain of having to deal with your dirty content needs.
DIY Content Consultation
You own what could be a sizzling small business in your rural community, but you hate marketing and really don’t understand it. In fact, this content stuff makes you want to gouge your eyes out.
Here I come to save the day – and your eyes!
What it is
What it isn’t
Basic SEO Website Audit
Not every business owner has a website, obvi, but those who do might want to give it a little oomph, boost those rankings, sprinkle in some SEO … or at least understand what all that stuff is about and how to do it yourself. Totally possible. This will be the least scary – and most rewarding – audit of your life.
Pinky swear.
What it is
What it isn’t
I write a lot of SEO content regularly on a freelance basis for some stellar global brands, so I don’t have a super amount of bandwidth to create content full-time for one single business. I do, however, love to partner with small business owners who need a helping hand creating content on a one-off or semi-regular basis. If your marketing content is completely stressing you out, we should talk about a custom content package that works for you.
Here’s where I sizzle when it comes to creating fiery content
Website Content Creation
Maybe this is you.
You hired someone to build a brand new website for your start-up business. You love it. It’s beautiful.
And blank.
You want to fill those beautifully designed web pages with words that will woo Google and appear magically before your audience’s eyes, but the task is so overwhelming, you just throw up your hands and search for an AI tool.
Ew.
Here I come to save the day!
Specialties
Proofreading & Editing
Let me have a look.
Need an extra eyeball on your copy before you go live or to print?
Maybe it’s time you localized that global website content for U.S. English or revised that old copy for SEO, hmmm?
Or perhaps you are trying to get a job or graduate college? That’s random, I know, but why not throw one more in!
Proofreading and editing needs are endless, and ain’t nobody got time for them!
Wait.
I have time for them.

Content Management
I can be your Robin.
After I started writing award-winning articles, a nice managing editor named Robin taught me layout and design with QuarkXPress on an alien-shaped Mac.
I think she just wanted weekends off, but whatevs. Here we are.
I later mastered Adobe InDesign, PhotoShop, Figma and WordPress. I can pretty much layout and/or design whatever in my sleep. I even made a building-sized sign once! (Not in my sleep.)
We all need a Robin in our lives, but “we” all can’t afford a full-time Robin.
Let’s talk about how I can be your Robin.

*Disclaimer: I don’t do toilets – for free anyway. I am not opposed to getting paid to clean toilets, but it will be far less weird for me to help you with your content then to show up at your place of business with a toilet brush.
Wonder how blog posts add value to your website and boost your online business presence?
Don’t let your website presence fizzle out
Imagine your website as a single brick of charcoal. When lit, the brick burns for a hot minute and then fizzles out.
When added to other bricks of charcoal, the flame catches, and your fire grows larger and burns longer.
Getting my drift here?
Websites are a lot like bricks of charcoal. When you build one and just let it sit, it may get a few views here and there, but people are not going to find it unless you tell them that it’s there.
You have to fuel your fire.
And you guessed it, blog posts and fresh content do just that.
With a good fire, purpose-driven opportunies – like roasting marshmallows and warming your cold toesies – begin to evolve organically.
The same is true for fresh, SEO-driven content – the kindling that sparks curiosity and fuels connection with Google and your audience.
Let’s start building your fire

Deciding how to best spread the word about your business can be daunting, but marketing your new start-up is vital to your business success. For me, the content family circle is just a bunch of cousins, some of whom you might like and some of whom you don’t need at the next family reunion. I’m good at looking at the whole picture and giving the hand to the black sheep. I can even tell you why you don’t need them. It’s probably because they never bring pie, but their might be other reasons, too. We’ll talk about ALL that and more.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who do you work with?
I work with small business owners, rural community leaders, global brands, and content agencies on a freelance and contractual basis. I furnish one-off services and work on longer-term projects (3-6 months) that require up to 10-15 hours per week.
Why should I work with you?
Well, I’m fun, for starters. But I am professional, too. I’ve been working remote since 2008 and have never missed a deadline – by more than an hour anyway. (Don’t talk to my former pressman.* He’ll rat me out.) I care about your content as much as you care about your business. Seriously. Your success is my success, and I am passionate about all the people being successful – in ethical and fulfilling ways, of course.
👉 *When we were printing your paper, The Grant County Goat Review, you were on time more than most.” ~ John Franz, former printer and professional smart-ass.
How can you help my business with content?
I have been writing for public awareness, tourism, government, and all manner of non-profit and business needs more than 25 years, and I’ve seen content do miraculous things – establish state-wide grant programs, provide urgent travel advice, update buyers on vineyard stocks. Ok, not everything enacted through content is miraculous. But you can’t deny that content makes the world go ’round – even in small-town America. With valuable content, your small business can join the rat race … er, I mean … the bustling, always-exciting, world of business marketing – with a competitive edge. Yay.
What is your turn-around time?
Good question. What are your project specifications? These are things we will talk about during our discovery call, but you can be certain that we will agree on an acceptable date for you, and your content will be delivered before that deadline (or I will send a super nicely worded note telling you why it might be a couple minutes late. I’ve only had to do this twice. I’m human.)
Why is SEO important for my website?
Your website “lives” in a domain that is governed mostly by Google. Basically, Google is your landlord and head of the online Neighborhood Watch community. This is a good thing because when it sees a community member not putting forth a lot of effort – or worse, trying to con other community members – Google gets a little offended and gives that website the hand. Google likes websites to be honest, valuable, and user-friendly. That’s what SEO does. It’s not rocket science. It’s just good manners. I started studying SEO in 2017, and I keep up with latest trends so you don’t have to. If you just need to know the best places to use SEO on your website, check out the Basic Website Audit section, and give me a ring-a-ling.
How do we get started?
Just fill out that contact form up there, and shout, “Hey, I need some help!” And I’ll reply, and we’ll talk, and you will breathe a sigh of relief after that. Promise.
What are your prices for copywriting and creating content?
Somehow, I knew you were going to ask this question! So, I saved the best for last. Most project prices are discussed during our inital discovery call and then agreed upon in a follow-up quote. However, I do have set rates for DIY content consulations, basic website audits and some proofreading services. You can find those rates – and so much more! – in that handy dropdown section above titled Semi-Straightforward Pricing Options.
